Buon Natale from the Calgary Italian Bakery Famiglia

Christmas

At Calgary Italian Bakery we always enjoy the Christmas season as it provides us with a time to reflect on the past year as well as to make plans for the future. For us the holiday season has always been a time to show appreciation for family and friends, and to count our blessings. So with the end of 2018 fast approaching, we wanted to take some time to look back on the year, and share how thankful we are for your support.

2018 has been a trying year for our family. Our founder, Luigi Bontorin, was sick for much of 2018, and passed away in August. With the loss of Luigi, we not only lost our founder, but we also lost our father, grandfather, and friend. As the co-founder of the business, Luigi’s loss has been greatly felt within our Calgary Italian Bakery family, and will continue to be felt for years to come. Calgary Italian Bakery will continue to be run as Luigi intended, and will remain in the hands of the Bontorin family, under the continued guidance of Luigi’s two sons, Louis and David.

As a family owned company, we take pride in knowing that our famiglia not only consists of our employees, but also our customers and community. As such, we want to extend our thanks to you for your continued support of our business throughout the year. We deeply appreciate your patronage, and hope to continue serving you and the Calgary community for many years to come.

While we count our blessings at Christmas, we recognize that not everyone has been as fortunate throughout the past year. Since the start of Calgary Italian Bakery in 1962 under the guidance of our founders, Luigi and Myrl, we have always given back to the local community. This year is of no exception. We were happy to partner with Calgary Co-op again for their Stuff-A-Bus fundraiser in support of the Calgary Food Bank. Additionally, we made our annual donation on behalf of our employees and customers to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Giving back to those in need is and will remain a priority of ours. In the spirit of Christmas and giving, we encourage others to do the same.

Thank you for being a part of our famiglia! We are excited to continue growing our business as Luigi intended in the upcoming year, and look forward to honouring his legacy.

We wish you a holiday season filled with joy – here’s to 2019!
